Over the years of its artistic activities, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia has become one of the leading symphony orchestras in Russia, having won the love of the public and the recognition of professionals both at home and abroad. Placido Domingo, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Anna Netrebko, Hibla Gerzmava, Ildar Abdrazakov, Renee Fleming, Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin, Vadim Repin, Alexander Gindin, David Garrett and other stars of the world opera stage and famous instrumentalists have participated in the concert programmes of the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
Vladimir Spivakov is an outstanding violinist and conductor. As a soloist, he has performed with the best symphony orchestras of the world headed by prominent conductors of the 20th century. Maestro plays truly precious instruments. Since 1997, Vladimir Spivakov has been playing the Stradivarius violin, and Leonard Bernstein gave him a conductor's baton. Contemporary composers have repeatedly dedicated their works to Vladimir Spivakov. Among them are Alfred Schnittke, Rodion Shchedrin, Arvo Pärt, Isaac Schwartz, Vyacheslav Artyomov and many others. In 1979 he created the "Moscow Virtuosi" chamber orchestra, becoming its permanent artistic director, conductor and soloist, and in 2003 he became the head of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia founded by him.
