The topic of the event – creating historical prose on the example of the novel "The Garden" whose action takes place in the Voronezh province of 19th century.

Marina Stepnova is a writer and a teacher. Her novels were published in the "Novy Mir", "Snob" and "Esquire" magazines. Her first novel, "The Surgeon", was published in 2005. It is a philosophical story about the link of times and eternal values. The main characters are a plastic surgeon Khripunov and a prophet Hasan ibn Sabbah. The book was long-listed for the "National Bestseller" award.  In 2011, her second novel, "The Women of Lazarus" was published. It’s a family saga about love, describing a time span of almost a century. The book has been translated into 26 languages. It won the third place in the "Big Book" Award. A British newspaper "The Guardian" in July 2020 included the story in the list of "ten best novels, which take place in Russia."
