The concert programme "Dedication to Gershwin" reveals the fullness of the great American composer (1898 - 1937).
He first brought jazz to the academic scene. The premiere of his "Rhapsody in Blue", where the piano part was played by Gershwin himself, attended by the greatest musicians - Sergei Rachmaninov, Fritz Kreisler, Jascha Heifetz and Leopold Stokowski.
But George Gershwin belongs not only to jazz: he owned all genres, created music for plays and movies, wrote songs, symphonic and operatic works. Therefore, the programme of the concert in Voronezh will feature: the symphonic poem "An American in Paris"; one of the most popular works "Rhapsody in Blue" for piano and orchestra; his songs from movies, theatre plays and musicals and, of course, the famous aria from the opera "Porgy and Bess."
Mark Mandarano - American conductor, founder and artistic director of the Sinfonietta in Riverdale, New York.
He has worked with such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, taught by Leonard Slatkin, he conducted the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center (Washington). He has performed at venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Moscow Conservatory and other scenes.
