ARTiSHOK theatre was founded in 2001 as the first independent professional theatre company in Kazakhstan. A participant and Grand Prix winner at international theatre contests and festivals in Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, the troupe’s productions bind together physical theatre, pantomime, interactive street performances and a superb command of improvisation technique.
Anna Zinovieva is a director of Novosibirsk State Drama theatre “The Old House”, a graduate of the Schukin Theatre School (L. Heifits course), an acting skills teacher at Novosibirsk State Theatre Institute.
“The Cow”, a performance based on one of the most poignant short stories by Andrey Platonov, was staged by a young director Anna Zinovieva. She develops a particular life story – that of a boy called Vasya – until it acquires global proportions: “My granny is a “cow”, and so is my mum. This is all about the generation growing up in the Soviet Union. Those people might not have been as highly educated as the ones living now, but they were real, kind, warm. Now the like are few and far between.”
The premier took place in 2013.
“The invaluable real, genuine; human weakness, child helplessness, disconsolate love – such word combinations come to mind after the show. ARTiSHOK cast’s acting leaves not a single spectator untouched.”
